Urumqi airport is actually quite functional and we were able to find our way around with little difficulty. The security staff here is very sharp. You won’t be able to carry powerbanks that are not CCC-certified or sharp objects through the scanners even if you managed to get them through in other Chinese airports. We were at the airport at 5am on a departure flight and the only eatery that was open is the shop in the photo of this review. However, by 5:30am, most other shops start opening for business too

Huge but looks like still under development so many places needed to improve.
Example the Priority Pass accepted lounge in the International terminal is the China Southern lounge which is on the same floor as Burger King after passing through immigration.
It is very spartan in choices. There were some hot food and drinks but no coffee on this visit.
BTW many area AC was subpar, not sure if it was an energy saving measure or they just prefer a warmer thermostat setting.
